Evening Handbags

The holiday season is upon us and soon we will have reason to be dressed to the nines.  With your party attire you will need somewhere to stash your phone, lipstick, etc.   The obvious answer is a cute little evening bag or purse.  Some women like a glitzy bag to pump up the interest of a rather basic party dress.  Others prefer a simple handbag that keeps the focus on their magnificent frock.  Some like a purse with a handle or a strap; others prefer a clutch. Whatever your desire, there is a fabulous and affordable bag for you.  Here are a few of my favorites...vintage and new...from ebay.

Train Wreck Tuesday

... We love Janice Dickinson aka the World's "first" supermodel!

We love her so much that she could actually qualify for the hot mess of week as well!

.... looking good for a teenager woman of 55!

Keep that sigi away from the boobies hun... we don't want them to melt, do we?

"King and Kong" are a bit wrinkly there - botox much?

Jurie Els Won Case Against Esmaré Weideman

South African singer, Jurie Els has won his case against the Editor-in-Chief of Huisgenoot, You and Drum Magazine, Esmaré Weideman at the Bloemfontein Supreme Court of Appeal.

SA singer, Jurie Els...

According to reports, Weideman published the name of Jurie Els two years ago when fellow singer Robbie Klay spilled the beans on the alleged sexual molestation case against Els, however Els won the case and was acquitted from all charges.

Both editor Weideman and Media 24 were found guilty of contempt earlier today.

Vintage Rhinestone Jewelry

I love shiny, sparkling, vintage rhinestone jewelry.  It's the perfect party bling!  Add a beautiful statement piece to your little black dress...and you are good to go.  Or pair clear rhinestones with your brightly colored dresses.  It's an easy match.  Here are a few samples of vintage rhinestone pieces from my personal collection.

Vintage rhinestone jewelry is not just for that special event or party. Wear them with your jeans or add a beautiful brooch to your work jacket. (Just remember to avoid getting them wet or they will become cloudy or dull.)

The best places to locate inexpensive vintage rhinestone accessories are on Ebay, at vintage and thrift stores, and at auctions and estate sales.  Look for pieces with unique designs.  Buy only items with clear, unchipped, securely mounted stones.  If you want to make a larger investment, do your homework.  Learn about the early designers.  And be aware that reproductions are abundant.

Thrift Heaven

For those who regularly follow my blog, you already know how much I love thrift shopping for myself and for wardrobe items for photo shoots.  The closest thrift store to my home has always been 30-45 minutes away. Well, my dream has finally come true.. a new Goodwill just opened 15 minutes from my house.

Today was the Grand Opening of the Collierville, TN store.  It is roomy, well organized, stocked with loads of merchandise, and staffed with helpful smiling faces.  It gets and A+ from me.  I was really surprised to see so many people there since it is located in a rather affluent suburb of Memphis.  But, thrift shopping is no longer taboo among the rich.  In fact, it's rather in vogue.  I arrived 30 minutes after the ribbon cutting and the store was completely packed with shoppers pushing baskets brimming with terrific finds.  Here are a few of the great items I spotted...that were still on the racks!

I'm into lace up boots right now...and the floral design adds a girly touch.

Black and Silver Ankle Strap Wedges by Newport News

Stylish pewter flats with bows by Loft

Suede Airwalks for those casual days.

Roomy Black  Handbag with tassel

Terrific faux leather purse with brass studs

Fabric hobo - Love the fall colors

Tweed double breasted jacket by Loft

Camel velvet jacket by Gap - Love the tiny buttons

Olive military jacket with floral design on back

Mint chenille looking bolero (tags attached) from To The Max

Fabulous periwinkle paisley blouse by Talbots - not the least bit classic!

This was my size, so it came home with me...hippie style tiered long skirt

Warning:  Thrift shopping can be addictive.  Buy only what your really love and really need.

Victorian Inspired

I'm working on ideas for my latest project...a Victorian inspired fashion editorial.  (And I use the term "Victorian" loosely.)  I love the look of lace, ruffles, high necklines, and a variety of textures.  Here are a few of my inspiration photos:

If you have any Victorian inspired photos, please send them my way...I would love to see them.  Black and White photo by Byte Studio.

LHG Designs launches 2011 collection of vintage inspired wedding accessories at www.weddingandbaby.co.uk

LHG Designs is our very own label of handmade wedding tiaras, vintage headbands, vintage combs, jewellery - necklace, bracelets and earrings.

In the 2011 collection our designs are not only trend focused, we also have unique fashion forward designs that are sure to create new trends.

Ruffles, flowers and lots of fabric are HOT in wedding dresses for 2011, so what does the on trend bride do with her accessories?

The LHG Designs collection at http://www.weddingandbaby.co.uk/ have got that sorted. Look no further than your complete guide to accessorising your dress.

Traditional tiaras are starting to take a back seat with most discerning brides opting for headband and combs, that are adorned with rhinestones, feathers and flowers.

Birdcage veils were extremely popular in 2010, however for 2011 the trend is moving away from these as dresses become embelished with fabric flowers and ruffles.

LHG Designs have been creating accessories for the last two years that are not only sought after by celebrities, but also provide value for money and longevity. Louise regularly speaks with brides and develops designs that can be used long after the wedding or special occassion.

For the bride that wants to create the veil effect without the added fabric, our Marquise Veil Comb is the Show Stopper in our 2011 collection.
Amazing diamante claw set rhinestone comb creates this striking piece. Beautiful vintage style floral focal design mounted onto a silver silver comb. Birdcage veils take on a whole new dimension with our unique rhinestone side veil design. What makes this ultra special is that it can be converted into a brooch and worn again!

Floral wedding dresses need to remain with the theme, without adding more fabric to the design. So the best option is rhinestone embelished floral combs and headbands.

If you have opted for the simple dress but want to incorporate the floral theme, why not add fabric flowers to the hair. These can be flat on the head as in our Floral lace design below.

In our 2011 range also comes a romanesque headband /circlet. Stunning for a Grecian style wedding. Silver beadwork creates leaves and branches for this earthy deisgn.

If you are looking to include vintage and floral theme then look no further than our new range a shown below - that will be hitting the website very soon
