Anthony Vaccarello Takes The ANDAM Prize 29 Jun 2011, 9:43 pm
And the winner of this year’s ANDAM Fashion Award is…Anthony Vaccarello. The Belgian designer beat out Adam Kimmel, Commuun, Jeremy Laing, Palmer/Harding, and Yiqing Yin to take home the €200,000 prize. Asked afterward how he plans to spend the money, he said, “I want to continue to grow, to become more grand.” Grand? “To produce more pieces, especially show pieces,” he explained. As for his upcoming show, he said, “I like the idea of keeping it small, but maybe more light.” His Fall presentation was rather dimly lit, it’s true, but that didn’t stop him from grabbing all sorts of attention. Twenty-six-year-old Yiqing Yin, meanwhile, accepted ANDAM’s first-ever Young Designer Prize. “I felt like the baby,” she said of yesterday’s presentation. The €60,000 award will go toward funding her follow-up haute couture collection.
